Arlington Martin graduate
named Pew editorial intern
Special to The Pew
Emily Otness, a 2010 graduate from Martin High School in Arlington,
will serve as an editorial intern for Inside The Pew this summer.
Grelan Muse, founder of Inside The Pew, also announced June 1 that
Jalil Peraza-Williams, a 2010 graduate of Fort Worth Paschal High
School, and Eunique Jones, who will be a senior at Rowlett High
School in August, will serve as marketing interns for the publication.
“We are blessed to able to expand our internship this summer, and
offer opportunities in areas beyond writing,” Muse said. “I am confident
these exceptional students will learn a great deal this summer
working with us.”
Throughout high school, Otness was involved in several journalistic
spheres. After taking an introduction to journalism class her freshman
year, she joined the yearbook staff as an assistant business editor.
Her junior year she was named chief business editor and her senior
year she was editor-in-chief of the publication.
During her sophomore year, Otness was involved in starting a district-
wide news broadcast, AISD TV. She wrote news stories, reported
from the field, and anchored the broadcast for two years. Her
involvement in this TV program fostered her love for broadcast
journalism, and because of this, she will pursue a degree in
journalism at the University of Oklahoma beginning this fall.
Otness has competed on the state level for three years at the Texas
Association of Journalism Educators Convention, receiving two
superior ratings and one excellence rating for her feature writing.
Otness loves spending time with her family and friends and is an
active member in the youth group of Fielder Road Baptist Church,
located in Arlington.
“I desire to glorify God with everything I do, and I know my journalistic
talent is to be used only for His glory,” Otness said.
