One is never too old or too young to write a book. Just ask Aerias Hurd.

Hurd wrote his first book, “Dreaming,” at 14 and it was published when
he turned 18. Now, the 20-year-old from Beaumont is preparing for the
August release of his second book, “Deep in My Heart.”

Even though both books deal with growing closer to God, the
characters are in different walks in Christ.

“Both books are about building better relationships,” the Lamar
University sophomore communication major said. “The character in the
first book didn’t believe, but gets sick and realizes how God is. In this
book, the girl is a Christian and experiences ups and downs in her
walk.”

In “Deep in My Heart,” the character reunites with her mother after a
long absence. During the process, she decides to “test” God by
mistreating people and showing arrogance toward others. Hurd said
attitude changes lead to a well-rounded individual.

“The tests she took led to her downfall and in the process made her a
stronger person than she thought she could be. Her trust in God grew,
she was more forgiving and treated people better.”

A premiere party and birthday party for Hurd was held April 17 at
Cheddar’s in Beaumont.

While the book is fiction, Hurd said he did draw a tiny bit of inspiration
from his own walk. He admits there was a time in his young life that he
pulled away from God.

“I stopped prayed. I stopped going to church. After the struggle, my
faith is stronger,” said Hurd, who attends Church on the Rock in
Nederland. “I have found that the closer we get to Him, things get more
difficult. In the beginning we are happy and joyful, then tests come, and
we have to overcome. You either press on in Him or turn away from
God. Hopefully, you overcome.

“Sometimes you have to breakdown to break though.”

Adults young and old can find inspiration in the stories of these
characters; even the author is jovial about the end results.

“Things do get tough, and you have to have faith and perseverance.
They have yet to fail me.”
